Rathmines, Dublin 6, is one the most desired addresses.

The location is excellent, just outside of the city centre, so you can escape the hustle and bustle. But it’s also easy to commute to – many people walk only half an hour.

It is an inner-city area with a lot of amenities, but there aren’t many large parks nearby. However, there are plenty of beautiful greenery nearby.

Belgrave Square lies between Ranelagh (Rathmines) and is described by one Yelp reviewer to be an ‘oasis for calm’. It offers a children’s playground, trails and benches for enjoying the greenery.

Ranelagh Park can be found in the town of Ranelagh. This park has a duck pool and playground. Mount Pleasant Square is a smaller public park that is occupied mostly by a tennis team.

It’s only a few minutes away from St Stephen’s Green or Iveagh Gardens.

Rathmines is buzzing full of places to eat lists 37 dining options in the area. They are almost all located along Rathmines Road from the village centre to the Grand Canal. There’s a wide variety of cuisine available, including authentic Italian pizza from Manifesto and Palestinian plates served at Shaksuka. You can also find vegan delights at The Carrot’s Tail. Yelp says there are 9 coffee shops located in Rathmines.

The amazing nightlife extends to bars too. There are 46 bar and pubs in the area, listed on It does not include Portobello or Ranelagh.


Rathmines is a lively village with many independent shops and grocery stores, such as Lidl Metro and Tesco Metro.

The Swan Shopping Centre offers a moderate-sized Dunnes Stores as well as other outlets such Fallon & Byrne Holland & Barratt Dowlings Butchers and Fallon & Byrne.
